I don't normally post more than one painting at a time, but these go together. I did the barn on location on Wednesday here on Long Island at the Suffolk County Farm. It is a 7 x 10 watercolor that I did from the front seat of my car while sitting on the service road of a major highway. I went back to the farm on Thursday to sketch. Instead of doing a building or landscape the animals caught my attention. The last two sketches are in my watercolor moleskin notebook and are each about the size of a postcard. This was a stretch for me since I rarely do animals.

They're FABULOUS!!!! I can't choose a favorite, Joan -- because I LOVE them all!!! Have you thought of framing them all together?
BTW, where are you on LI? My sisters live there and I was raised in Amityville....
Wow, Joan! The barn is beautiful - no wonder you were willing to sit at the edge of the highway.
The animals came out great too - reminds me of our sketchcrawl at Van Saun Zoo, only I'll bet it was lots warmer this time.
Lin - Thanks so much. It would be an odd combination of tiny paintings and a larger one but would probably look good...except one little one is on the back of the other. I'm in Holbrook, not too far from Amityville.
Mickey - Thanks. I pass this spot a lot and have wanted to do it for a while. I was actually sittling on the exit ramp of the LIE. I can't find any other spot where you can view the buildings together. Drawing the animals reminded me of the sketchcrawl too. While I was doing the cows one in another pen came over and slobbered on my arm...the joys of plein air!
I love your landscape with the barn, Joan. Beautiful composition too. And great work on the cows. I think they are a great subject.
Your landscape is gorgeous as usual and your animals are awesome. Aren't you glad you did it. I think you should do animals more often too. I love your cows.
Robyn - Thanks. I'd love to do the barn as a larger painting at some point. I have a photo of it in the snow. The cows were very cooperative until they finished eating. Then they just walked away.
Ai - I plan to go back there a few more times. More baby lambs are expected soon, and I know there are goats and pigs there too. I just wish I could find another good view of the buildings together. Once you're actually at the farm, the perspective is a lot different. Thank so much.
These are wonderful. You do well with the animals. :) The barn is great. I love barns.....
Sorry I haven't been around to comment. These last few are wonderful.
I love the animal pictures and the farm. You should roam around and find more animals to do.
You may not do animals but you sure did a great job on these.
