I don't paint flowers very often, but the abundance of flowers this spring has called me a few times. This was done in plein air at the arboretum I've been going to. The rhododendrons have been spectacular. This is 4 x 6.

what a beautiful painting, and I hope you consider painting MANY more flowers...you're VERY good at it! (and then I can ask for advice!!_
SO BEAUTIFULLY DONE, Joan!!! Love the variations in the shadings ... and the form is wonderful!!! BRAVA!!!!
Holly - Thanks. Maybe if I did more of them I'd get more confident.
Lin - Thank you. It was fun to do these. I was able to do the petals a bit looser than most flowers. I had planned on doing a landscape with the flowers in the background, but they looked so nice I sat down right next to the bush.
These are gorgeous. Pink and green are springy and friendly, don't you think?
Jo - Thanks. I love flowers. Since I don't have a garden (just a few containers of flowers on my patio) I've been to the arboretum many times this spring. It's hard not to sit down and paint something there.
Excellent Rhodies! Flowers that grow in "clumps" are not easy to paint, and you did a great job. I also like the interesting things that you made the stems and branches do. :-)
Mickey
Mickey - Thanks. I found it easier to do these because they are in clumps and blend together a bit.
This is so gorgeous Joan. You should do more flowers. You did great !!!! Ai
