Beach Sentry

I did this 7 x 10 watercolor of the Fire Island Lighthouse in plein air last week. I really love lighthouses, and this one is one of the few that I've found that you can get close to from any angle. I did hike about 1/2 mile to get to be right in front, but it was worth the walk.

You live in a beautiful area. This is great. You know me and red and blue! :)

Nice little painting of the lighthouse - pretty lighthouse, but I really like your sand and beach grasses. But what can I expect from someone who practically lives at the beach.

Lin - Thanks! Come to NY and we can do plein airs together!!

Holly - Thank you. We've been having nice days so I've been out plein air painting almost every day.

Jo - Thanks. I'm lucky that there are so many nice places here to paint.

Mickey - Thanks. Get your sandals ready for the beach. As soon as the water is warm enough to put more than a toe in, you're invited to join me for a few days.

You mean you actually swim when you are at the beach? I thought you just sat in a beach chair and painted. I love how you did the foreground. Don't see any lighthouses here.

What a beautiful place, Joan. Your plein air watercolours are always impressive. I find your painting of sand and grasses exceptional.

I love this lighthouse. It is a little charming place. You did very well. I love your tiny bushes and sand dunes as well.

Jeanne - I don't really "swim" much at the beach. I tend to go in the water and cool off for a few minutes. Then I sit and sketch or read.

Robyn - Thanks. I think after spending so much of my life at the beach I've "absorbed" it. It's in my blood now.

Ai - Thank you. This particular lighthouse is great to paint because its so visible. You could sit in the parking lot and paint it if you wanted (and I have).
