Watercolor Sketches

I went out plein air painting to a local farm to do some sketches for the Scavenger Hunt on WetCanvas. Animals aren't the easiest to do...they don't really stay put. I had some little 6 year old boys watching me do the birds. They wanted me to do all of them. There were probably about 8 of them in the enclosure. I did a goat too but he seems to have wandered off.

I think these are terrific, Joan! I can't imagine trying to sketch fast enough to catch these animals on the run! SuPER! Sounds like a fun day!

Lin - Thanks. I would start on one bird and he would run away, so I'd start on another and hope the first one would come back. It is a challenge, but fun!

Hi Joan, good field(farm?)work, you are fearless!

Ron - Thanks. I was sitting there painting and all of a sudden they let the goats out of their pen to be fed. It was wild!

Hi Joan! Long time, I know..no hear from! School started out SO busy! I see you've been busy too! I especially like the farm scenes..we go to the local organic farm with my students and they LOVE to try to catch the loose chickens! Take care!

Oh, I don't know how I missed the chickens since I know I saw the pig. I still marvel that you were able to sketch the chickens while they were moving. I loved your story about painting these. :-)
