This was painted from a reference photo from AlainJ for the Weekend Drawing Event on WetCanvas. It is 7 x 10 and done in watercolors and ink. Those blades on the windmill were a real challenge for me.
I can only IMAGINE how challenging they were .. but oh did you nail them, Joan! What a fabulous piece! I love the blends of greens in the shrubs, the sandy colors -- and the mill itself is divine! BRAVA, Joan -- superb!
I have always participated in the visual arts including watercolors, drawing and sketching, pen and ink, and photography. Since retiring from teaching I have devoted much of my time to watercolors, sometimes combining them with pen and ink or collage.
Watercolor is the perfect medium to capture the beauty that surrounds us. I love to travel, and sketch and paint wherever I go. Painting, especially on location, captures the spirit and life of the subject. I hope to continue doing that for a long time to come.

Lovely rendition, the blades look great!
Nice job on this one Joan. I saw the reference and thought about trying it since my husband is Dutch...

Anita - Thank you. I wasn't sure about the perspective on them.
Helen - It was a great reference and I love windmills. Thanks.
Lin - Thanks. I was working from a B&W copy of the reference, so I sort of took artistic license for parts.
Nice, Joan. A great job on the blades and color. Wow!
