This was done for the WDE on WetCanvas from a photo reference supplied by Alain. This is his wife in a photo taken many years ago. The photo was B&W so I played around with the color. I didn't get a great likeness of her.
I agree with Michelle -- it's a wonderful job, Joan -- skintone, eyes, the dress, shadings .... hope the beach was wonderful .. it was in the high 60s here -- I killed weeds! LOL
I do not know what Alain's wife looks like so to me this is fabulous! You've captured a fresh and natural aspect of her personality, Joan. I really like this!
I have always participated in the visual arts including watercolors, drawing and sketching, pen and ink, and photography. Since retiring from teaching I have devoted much of my time to watercolors, sometimes combining them with pen and ink or collage.
Watercolor is the perfect medium to capture the beauty that surrounds us. I love to travel, and sketch and paint wherever I go. Painting, especially on location, captures the spirit and life of the subject. I hope to continue doing that for a long time to come.

Well, it's a good portrait anyway. I like her hair and her eyes. It's hard to get a really good likeness, especially in watercolor.

Lovely skin and expression Joan. Getting the likeness has always been tough for me too. You did great.

Mickey - Thanks. Some people are easier to capture than others.
Lin - Thanks so much!! Killing weeds does not sound like fun!
Ai - Thanks. I think the problem was the way her face was turned. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
Sherry - Believe me...the photo of her was gorgeous. Thanks.
