This is the other plein air I was able to do in Central Park. I found a nice bench to sit on and had a wonderful view. It was really crowded so I only selected a few characters to include in the painting. This is 4 x 6 done in watercolors and ink.
SO LOVELY!!!! I'm so glad you got to see a show -- it has been years and years since I've been to a Broadway show ... LOVE the tender touch on this, Joan .. and you must have a patient husband to wait while you sketched!
Joan - Thanks. I was going into the city for dinner and a show with my husband. I convinced him to go in early so I could paint.
Lin - Thank you. My husband usually can find something to entertain him for a while. Most of the time I was working on this he was off listening to a sax player in the park.
I have always participated in the visual arts including watercolors, drawing and sketching, pen and ink, and photography. Since retiring from teaching I have devoted much of my time to watercolors, sometimes combining them with pen and ink or collage.
Watercolor is the perfect medium to capture the beauty that surrounds us. I love to travel, and sketch and paint wherever I go. Painting, especially on location, captures the spirit and life of the subject. I hope to continue doing that for a long time to come.

Hi Joan, I love your recent plein air post. Are you going into Manhattan with other artist? Great work.
